We recently migrated Environmentarian.au (and the Hemp Building Directory) to a new home: Serversaurus, a genuinely ethical data centre right here in Australia.
For a business built on helping for-good organisations show up well online, where our own website lives matters. Hosting isn’t usually something clients think about, but it’s one of the quiet ways a business either lives its values or just talks about them.
Serversaurus has been carbon neutral since 2007, partnering with Greenfleet to offset all emissions from their servers and operations. They’re Australia’s first and only B Corp Certified web hosting company – B Corporation Certification a rigorous, third-party standard for social and environmental performance, re-verified every three years. And as members of 1% for the Planet, they donate at least 1% of annual revenue to environmental causes, a commitment we share with our own values focused giving (see the 24/25 FY article).
For us, this migration wasn’t just a technical upgrade. It’s alignment: practicing what we ask our clients to consider, that every part of a values driven lifestyle in this modern world, right down to where all your data and files actually sit, can be a choice.
If you’re curious about what an ethical data centre actually looks like, or thinking about where your own website is hosted, we’re happy to chat.
We also use Serversaurus’s affiliate program, so if you sign up through our link, it supports the work we do here too.
