Video and Website Optimisation Compound: Hiscoes Case Study 2

A follow-up to Head to Hiscoes…but why the name Hiscoes?

The short of it…Video and Website Optimisation Compound

We produced a branded intro video for Hiscoes Gym, embedded it in a written case study on our own site, and did nothing else. The video isn’t even public, it’s unlisted.

And yet: search “Hiscoes” on Google Images and our post shows up three times. Ask Google’s AI overview a question about the gym, and the answer could well be pulled directly from what’s spoken in the video.

Two separate things are working here, neither explains the result. It’s what happens when they’re placed together because video and website optimisation compound.

Find the video on their website here:

What we actually did

  • Wrote and produced a short branded video with Hiscoes owners Lynsey and Mac — no actors, live-scripted on the day, filmed on their own gym floor
  • Uploaded it unlisted to the Jeremy Thomas Environmentarian YouTube channel, minimal description, no hashtags, very little SEO
  • Embedded that same video inside a fully written, structured blog post on the Environmentarian site — headings, on-page copy, image alt text, a clear topical focus around “Hiscoes” and the campaign story
  • The same video was used to on Hiscoes’ own About Us page

At time of writing the video sits at 19 views. The same video on the Hiscoes YouTube channel sits at 562 views.

Yet its the video embedded into the website post that gets found.

Why “compound” is the right word

On its own, the written post is likely doing what good SEO always does: structured content, relevant imagery, a clear keyword focus. That’s probably why three separate images from the post are turning up for “Hiscoes” in Google Image search. Nothing unusual there.

On its own, the video is likely doing very little. It’s even unlisted.

Put together, something else appears to happen. Google’s AI overview seems to be surfacing detail that exists only in the video’s spoken content, detail that isn’t written anywhere in the surrounding post. Probably seeing both Head to Hiscoes videos matching the transcript and caption data and serves the AI snippet.

Video and Website Optimisation Compound

That’s the compounding effect: the optimised page seems to lend the unoptimised video credibility and context, and the video appears to hand back a second, independent layer of content Google can draw from — spoken words a text-only page could never have supplied. Neither would happen on its own.

The part most businesses miss

Hiscoes’ own YouTube channel is not optimised. Every video defaults to whatever frame YouTube grabs automatically. Videos sitting there in isolation, with no written page to compound against, are missing half of what appears to make this work.

That’s the gap between having video content and running a video presence. Producing a video is one thank. Rolling out that video is another.

Hollywood studios reportedly put close to half a blockbuster’s total budget into marketing and distribution. The film itself is only half the job. Most small businesses spend 100% of their video budget on production and nothing on placement. The Hiscoes result suggests that even one deliberate pairing decision, embedding a video inside an optimised page, can move the needle, without spending anything on paid promotion.

So we cab see how Video and Website Optimisation Compound…

What we’re offering

If you’re producing video and treating YouTube as a place to park the file, another social channel.. you are missing gold in front of you.

We can help with:

  • Placement and pairing: deciding where a video lives and what written content it sits next to, since that pairing appears to be what drives this compounding effect
  • Rollout strategy: turning one shoot into a staged release across Shorts, long-form, socials, and website/email, instead of a single upload
  • Channel management: thumbnails, descriptions, playlists, and consistent presentation, so the channel itself does work, not just individual videos

Let’s talk about the rollout, not just the video.
